Sharing memories of Spring Vacation

Dear Students,

While your memories of Spring Vacation are still fresh in your mind, please share with all of us one special memory.  I'm not asking for an hour by hour account of a trip or excursion but of a moment that meant a lot to you.  Think snapshot and describe what was happening and why it is memorable to you.

For instance, one memory that stands out to me involves my nine year old Australian shepherd, Katie.  Some of you were aware that Katie was injured in a dog fight with her step-sister, Ilsa, a week before Spring Vacation.  Katie most likely triggered the fight by herding Ilsa and nipping at her ears.  Some instincts can't be altered.  Thus when my husband and I got home from running errands that afternoon, we found clumps of bloody black dog hair in the entry way, and Katie with a nasty gash on the top her head and lower right eye.  After spending six hours at Dove Lewis and undergoing surgery to implant a drainage tube in her head and stitches in her lower right eye, Katie returned home wearing an Elizabethan collar (the cone of shame) along with a bag full of antibiotics and painkillers.  For days we administered various types of medication every eight hours and forced Katie to wear the "cone of shame" which she detested and would often drag along the floor.

Finally on Thursday of Spring Vacation, Katie got her stitches and drain removed.  Together we drove back to Dove Lewis where she quickly perked up when the veterinarian bent down to examine her head wound and complimented Katie on how well she was healing.  She started wiggling her stump of a tail and happily turning circles in front of everyone in the waiting room.  Katie then pranced as the vet took her leash and lead her to an examination room to remove her stitches.  Five minutes later Katie was back bounding with joy around the Dove Lewis waiting room showing off her half shaved head now free of stitches and  drainage tubes.  Seeing her healthy and happy put a huge smile on my face and was a Spring Vacation highlight I wanted to share with all of you.

Please remember to 1-3 paragraph description of your Spring Vacation highlight and don't forget to sign your name along with period at the end.  Edit your writing before publishing your post.  Your blog response is due by 5 p.m. on Friday, April 6th.

Best wishes,
Mrs. Allan

  3. Dear Mrs. Allan,

To be honest my break was good but not spectacular. Well here's a memory for you. During that week I had yummy, delicious, and satisfying marshmallows. But that's not all there was gram crackers and chocolate too. That night I also slept in a tent. And yes it was raining! It was very chilly, but I had my cocoon. A cocoon is many blankets wrapped around you so that you won't move. Oh and it keeps you warm, trust me. My sweat was dripping down my back, but it could have been the puddles in the tent too. You know what it was probably both. My brothers were going to sleep in the tent with my friends and I but they were chickens, as usual. I hope you like my story! Enjoy!

  6. Dear Mrs. Allan,

One memory stood out to me on spring break: visiting my great grandpa. My great grandpa (Papa Si) isn't getting any older. He's now 94, and I love him a lot. At dinner, we were eating with friends and Papa Si, and he just started sharing stories of himself in the military. It was like a whole other experience listening to the tales of his life. The stories made me feel content that I was visiting him. That was my most important spring break memory and it will not be forgotten.

  7. This is spring break was very fun. My sister was turning twenty-four years old during spring break so we celebrated her birthday at Cinetopia. I have never been there before so it was an experience we all enjoyed. Surprisingly my sister was willing to let me and my big brother to choose the movie. Of course we had to choose the Hunger Games. We ordered food from the restaurant and it was not the best food we ever ate at a movie theater.

After the movie we all remember our favorite parts or the most funny parts. We walked down to Ava's in the pouring rain. When we got there we each enjoyed a slice of cake and some hot cocoa. It was a very delightful spring break that we wont forget.

  8. Dear everyone who reads this,

Well first off my Spring break was some what exciting. My favorite memory of Spring break was when it was Thursday 2:40 P.M when we got out of school for Spring break...Wait that wasn't my favorite moment... My favorite moment was actually when my brother came back from college. It was pretty exciting to see him since Winter break. My little brother Marcus, my older brother Jordan and I had fun overall. We wrapped up the last day with some basketball in the rain. Even though we got wet, It was all worth it.

  9. This spring break was most likely the worst spring break I ever had. My family and I were going to go to Bend, OR to ski, but some how it got canceled after my oldest brother Matthew who is now a freshman collage is going to some other ski resort in Idaho with his new “friends”. So then my family decides (without my bother) to go to the beach. But of course that gets canceled too. But to make it all worst for three days I was on the couch watching TV with a fever. Every single other day I was also home because I had a cold. The only good thing is that I saw The Hunger Games movie on the first day it came out. Immediately after seeing the movie I rush home and read the whole entire first book. Right now I am all most done with the third book. As you can see my spring break was pretty awful but at least I got a couple things out of it

  10. My spring break was very enjoyable, but sadly my father was on a business trip in Italy from Tuesday to Saturday. On the first weekend, my father, my annoying fifth-grade brother, and I drove on a long trip all the way to the Evergreen Air and Space Museum. Every time I go there I am simply stunned by the sheer size of the museum's largest aeroplane (which is in counted among the largest aeroplanes in the world), the Spruce Goose. The wingspan is so great that most of the other aircraft in the building hang under its massive grey wings thick enough for a full-grown man to stand up in if the fuel was drained. It looks like an entirely metal vehicle, but in fact it is made of wood painted in a monochrome metallic finish. The interior of the thing is simply cavernous, with enough room to possibly carry multiple tanks or some other massive cargo.
After exploring this wondrous flying machine, we proceeded to view the various other aeroplanes on display. The Me-262, the world's first fully-operational jet fighter, was one of my favorite sights. The B-17 was far more impressive, bristling with glass machine-gun turrets and having a massive bomb bay ready to rain certain death upon its foes. There was also a large space section, with many rockets, missiles, and manned space vehicles. As I gazed at the titanic V-2 ballistic missile, I reflected on how unfortunate it would be to have one of those land on my head while I was simply minding my own business.
Overall, the trip was a highlight of my spring break.

  11. My spring break was preaty awesome to tell the truth. This year I went to San Diego where I saw the sun a lot but it could of been warmer. The Best memory was when I went to the animal park that was next to Escondido. What was great about that is that we got to drive around on a Segway that was off road and see animals from Africa, Asian, and south America and some others. The best thing I saw there was a big daddy rhino that was 6 tons! My family and I saw him from a about 5 feet away. Even when it was laying down it was about 5.5 feet tall and 14 feet long!

  12. My Spring Break was AMAZING! I went to Disney Land and even found out my best friend was going at the same time!!! But, that was not my favorite part, while at Disney Land, I remember taking a picture of with the Mad Hatter and Alice! It was funny because I told the Mad Hatter I was him for Halloween the previous year and he was amazed! It was funny, because before we took the picture, he put a tea cup on my head!! It was very fun and Alice was happy that she was on my sister's and my shirt.

  13. My spring break was full of hard work and sweat. Every day in the mourning I would have to get up at 8 getting ready for my 6 hour basketball camp. There I would learn, defense, shooting, rebounding, ball handling and the worst of all, conditioning. We would have drills in the mourning and scrimmages in the afternoon. I liked the drills. It may not have been as fun as the scrimmages but it helped me tremendously. I especially like the ball handling station. I liked it because it improved my left hand. We then took from what we learned from the drills and executed in the afternoon scrimmages. After the long hard day I would be soaked in sweat from head to toe.

  14. Well nothing really stood out,but I can tell you what I did. This spring break I and my cousin Danae had his and her birthday. I loved my birthday, I got a lot of good presents and I had a sleepover. Even this Tuesday and Monday I got birthday cards. Sunday I and Danae had a party celebrating both of us. I loved it. Overall I enjoyed my spring break

  15. Over spring break I had my aunt and grandma come over. We went out to dinner had fun exe. Besides for that I didn't do anything exept play on the computer and hang out with friends. I personaly think spring break should have been longer. I only had one sheet of homework over break which was nice (would have been nicer if I had none).

  16. Over spring break I had gone to San Diego with my family, and this time, we got to RELAX!!!!!! Almost every single day I was at the pool chilling on one of the many comfortable chairs. Many days the weather was a warm 65 degrees, but the first day it was like Oregon, and rained with 40 degree weather. We stayed in a bungalow for 5 days, and met up with my cousins a lot of the time. Overall I had a great spring break, and would rate it an 8 out of 10!!!

  17. This spring break was probably the most boring week of my life. Towards the beginning of the week, I decided that I should at least do something productive for the week, so I decided to send out an e-mail to everyone in my Renaissance group and settle a meeting. But the second I turned on my computer, my brother walked into my room and said that our mom was forcing us to do something together as "brothers". I thought that it wasn't that bad, I'll just e-mail everyone after we do our "brotherly thing". We decided to watch a movie, but there was nothing to watch but the Hunger Games. It was a terrible movie. The camera work looked like someone was having a seizure while filming the movie. The music made no sense to the scenes in the movie (which is a pretty important factor for me because I love the songs that people choose to play in movies). There was a hundred percent no blood or violence in the movie. Honestly, it's a gladiator fight with a dozen times more people(literally) and a lot more selection of weapons. It was a waste of two and an half hours. After the failure of a movie, my older brother decided to take me to Pizza Schimizza. Luckily, it was happy hour(s), so my brother bought himself a beer and we both got a couple slices of pizza to go. We went home and played Modern Warfare 3 while eating our pizza. After two games of Survival,I decided that there was no point delaying it. Time to e-mail my Renaissance group. But once I woke up my computer, I clicked on Mozilla Firefox. I waited one minute, two minutes, three minutes, until finally, the page popped up and a problem occurred. My internet was down! I tried everything I could to connect to the internet, but nothing worked. My dad, (who works with computers) wasn't able to fix my internet connection until 9:00 P.M. on Sunday. Because I only had my group's e-mail and not their phone numbers, I had one of the most unproductive and boring weeks of my life.

  19. I have a memory from my vacation to Maui that wasn’t the best. It was just a regular old day in the sunshine and my family and I went on a walk. We took the elevator down from our room on the 8th floor and then we heard some screaming. There was a little boy about 3 or 4 in the nude running out of his room. And he was screaming about how he didn’t want to take a bath and was running from his mom. So the boy managed to get into our elevator. Yes… a crying naked boy in our elevator, just lovely. So we went down 8 floors and I just closed my eyes and waited for the naked boy to leave. I also put in my headphones to block out all the crying. Then I looked at what floor we were on. It said 2. But the arrow was going up. Then I realized that we had to take the naked boy back up. Hooray… a naked boy that’s crying in my elevator for 16 floors. So we returned him to his mom. I was glad he’s gone, and I just wanted to watch TV the rest of the day so I wouldn’t be reminded of the terrible thing I experienced. Even though it wasn’t a good memory what so ever, it’s defiantly one I will never ever forget, and one that will make my trips to Maui less enjoyable.

  20. My break was very good, I didn't go any where special, but I did go fishing with my dad. When we caught our first (and only) fish, we were cheering, this was because we had sat out in the rain for at least three hours. It was raining so not many fish really hit our lines. We were so ecstatic that we ate our lunches, this sounds very unusual, but my dad want to catch at least two fish before eating. We had been out there so long that my dad decided to postpone the other fish so we could eat. All in all it was a great day, I hope we do it again soon!

  21. Over spring break, I went up to Mount Hood to cross country ski. I loved going on one black diamond trail called Mountain View. It had lots of uphills and downhills, but there was a really fun downhill that I relished. I went straight down, gathering speed until I coasted out at the bottom. The trip was really fun!

  22. As the clocks in school ticked down the final minutes left before spring break, I could hardly stay in my seat. I was giddy with excitement and could not stop imagining what fun things I would do. Then I remembered. Oh, right. We weren't going anywhere for spring break.
After hearing all my friends brag and talk about their awesome-sounding vacations to Florida, Whistler, and New York, it was hard not to feel a bit jealous. My family was planning to go to the coast, but the weather turned out to be cold and rainy, so we stayed.
But like the saying goes, good things happen to those who wait. And wait I did. Endless days passed and I spent them sitting on the couch, lazily flipping through the channels on TV, alternating between "Extreme Couponing" on TLC and "Friends". Suddenly, my mom walked into the room brandishing a huge grin on her face.
"Come on, get your lazy bum off the couch and let's go!" She said, turning off the TV. I groaned. I was not a huge fan of reality TV but after two hours of watching people go crazy over saving $2 on a bottle of coke, it seemed a pretty good way to waste my spring break away.
"Where? There's nothing fun here." I whined, trying to take back control of the remote.
My mom hopped out of my reach and pulled out two tickets.
"What are those?" I asked. I knew my mom would likely drag me off to a boring medical convention, and I was determined to stay put unless those tickets were backstage passes for a Lady Gaga concert.
"We......" She said, pausing dramatically. "are going to the Blazer game!"
My eyes nearly popped out of my sockets. The Blazer game? Say goodbye, Gaga!
"Plus, WE'RE IN THE SKYBOX!!!" My mom said. I screamed and jumped up. I looked down at my comfy, fuzzy pajama pants. Right. I danced all the way up the stairs and changed in record-time.
We drove to the Rose Garden and found a place in line. Thousands of people were milling about, getting refreshments and stopping to take a look at the shoes of the players on display. We eventually found the elevator. I was so excited!
When we entered the room, the first thing I noticed were the big TV's and plush chairs everywhere. Giant trays of food were set about. Lots of other people whom I assumed worked with my mom were also there. They were mostly adults, and didn't pay too much attention to the game-mostly standing around and sipping wine.
I grabbed some soda and sat down on the seats facing the stadium. Big, flashing advertisements were being shown on the screens. Finally, the Blazers ran out! The ads for Domino's Pizza were replaced by a profile of each player as the camera followed them onto the court. The Blazers smiled and waved, then began practicing their shooting skills.
Then the opposing team came out (with a few boo's from the audience), and the game began!
The rest of the night was a blur of exhilaration and awesomeness as we cheered for each successful shot and groaned at each missed one. Cheerleaders and dancers came out during the breaks, performing routines that pumped up everybody in the room.
It was a close game, but in the end, the Blazers won!
Confetti rained down from the ceiling and the announcer's voice was drowned out by the cheering of thousands of fans. My voice was hoarse from yelling, but I didn't care.
On the drive back, I couldn't stop talking about the game. The players, the fouls, the rim shots, everything! I probably drove my mom crazy.
So I guess you don't always need to go to some fancy hotel in a tropical paradise to have a good time. Even though my spring break wasn't exactly as I imagined, I wouldn't trade it in for anything else. :)

  23. Over Spring Break, I went to China Hat and we went dirt bike riding. We went as a family and with my cousin. My cousin had never ridden before and she finally learned, , but it took awhile for her to figure it out. My favorite moment was when she was riding around the campground and she lost control for a moment and ran straight into a tree. She went flying of the front of the dirt bike and landed way in front of it! At one moment it was very funny, but it was still sad. We had a really good time and it took a little bit for her to get used to it, but she finally got the hang of it!

  24. My spring break was the best spring break ever!! The thing that made it so fun and awesome was when I went to my friends. When I was there, we had these Kit Kats from Japan that I had brought over. The first impression we had of them was that they were going to be the grossest things we had ever tasted! The flavors told us that to prove it! They were rice noodle, a key lime thing, egg roll, and, (Are you ready?...) sow sauce!! We started out with the rice like noodle flavor. It wasn't all that bad actually! Then the lime, which was good but very strong. We were going to eat the sow sauce one last but I accidentally open it and my friend got really mad at me. It smelled like syrup and tasted like syrup. So it wasn't at all as bad as we had expected it to be. And then there was one. The dreaded egg roll... That one took forever to open!! But we eventually got it. We put them in our mouths. Chewed... Chewed... And Chewed... I could not taste it at all! I told him and then all of a sudden he screamed, said ew, and shoved his face into a pillow. While I just sat there. Then after that we went upstairs and we were going to do the cinnamon challenge but we didn't have any cinnamon so we decided to take a shot of tabasco sauce instead. So we got two tall shot glasses and filled them up half way and poured ourselves a glass of milk. Then we went out on the patio and took the shot! It was crazy he swallowed his right away and started choking but I held it in my mouth for awhile, then swallowed, then started talking and coughed my vocal chords out. It took us about five to seven minutes to recover. So in the end this one night let me KNOW how awesome and exciting that spring break was going to be...

  25. My spring honestly wasnt the best that I have ever had. It started out fun, my friend was coming down from Canada and we were going to the San Juan Islands and rent a house. So we got there and a few hours later my dogs trainer called and said that Teddy (my dog) had died. So the next day we had to drive back to Oregon and she had to go back home to. Teddy though was the sweetest dog I had ever met, we weren't quite sure what type he was since we had gotten him from a shelter but he looked like a rottweiler shepard mix. He was only 5 or 6 when he died, but he did have epolypse and the doctor had told us when we got him that he would have a shorter life than most dogs. But the rest of my break was fun..

  26. During spring break, my family and I went skiing at Mount Hood Meadows. We stayed in our family's cabin in Sandy. I went on black diamonds, blue squares, and terrain parks. My favorite was terrain parks because I went off jumps, and got about 3 feet of air. Although the terrain parks were the most fun, the black diamonds were a close second. I went straight down, and it felt like I was going 75 miles per hour. It was amazing. After the long and fun day of skiing, we went back to the cabin and drank warm and delicious cups of hot cocoa. I did not want to leave Mount Hood Meadows, but sadly it was time for school. So our family gathered our things and left.

  27. For Spring Break I got to go to Palm Springs California! My family and I go every year!! And it is more fun every time I go!! When we go, we always stay at my grandmas house there! I love staying there because I absolutely hate hotels! My favorite part about Palm Springs is hang out with friends because four of them go as well! But in my free time I love to tan by the pool, swim, and go on golf cart rides! Later on my trip we drove up to Anaheim, and went to Disneyland! This was the highlight of my trip by far because I got to see my best friend Margo that lives in Arizona!! We had so much fun together and both of our favorite rides were Tower of Terror and California Screamin!!

  28. This spring break I got to go bowling two different times, both with different family members. Also, I went to see the Hunger Games on Sunday with Kinley and then I went to visit my grandma at a nursing home. We where going to go to Sunriver, but we ended up staying here and decided to do other fun things like going to the outlet mall in Woodburn. This wasn't the best spring break I have ever had, but I got to spend time with family from Utah and do more things than if I would have gone to Sunriver.

  29. The bright morning sun was peeking over the rust red sandstone cliffs. The bright, clear, blue sky looked down upon an expanse of dry fields and forests. The ground was a few thousand feet beneath me. I was in a hot-air balloon with my cousin and grandparents, flying over Sedona, Arizona. The four of us were on a week-long trip together. We had woken up at 5:00 AM that morning to ride the balloon. The view was amazing. This was one of my favorite things we did. We also went on a jeep ride across the rugged sandstone, and hiked to the ruins of Native American cliff dwellings. My spring break was great.

  31. My spirng break was probably the BEST EVER!!! I went to Arizona for pratically all week, well, almost all week. We went there mostly ecause of the warm sun and also because of that we haven't seen our grandparents for awhile. We swam, slept in a comfortable cabin, and did whatever it took to have fun under the sun. Dinner in the evening was always great, and we saw 198 people skydiving at once when we went to a place to watch people jump out of a plane. We went to this pizza place where we got to hear a dude play a piano organ. It was sad that we had to leave on tuesday, after some nights I spent watching the "Golden Girls" on T.V., but at least I had the plane ride to look foward to. Well, that's my story.

  32. For my spring break I mostly stayed at home and played Harry Potter Wii version, but I also went to Seaside with my family, my friend Sarah and my sister's friend Malea. That morning we left the house at one o' clock to pick up Sarah and Malea. After we picked them up we started our trip to Seaside. When we got there we all ran to the beach and jumped into the warm sand, then we had a huge "sand"which. After we ran across the beach multiple times and took silly pictures, we walked into town where we bought lots of tasteful things. At about that time it was dinner so we drove to Cannon Beach to Moe's. And then we drove home, when some of us snored happily while others watched a movie.

  33. My spring break sucked. When I went down to palm springs it rained every single day.We couldn't go outside because my grandparents did not want to get wet. We went allowed to go swimming, because the pool was closed due to rain. And we had to drive everywhere we went. I didn't even get to wear my shorts! But my second part of spring break was even worse. I had to go skiing on Mt. Bachlor. The conditions were horrible. Everywhere I went there were sheets of ice and the wind hurt when it hit my face
I hope other people had a better spring break than I did.

  35. My Spring Break was very sad. I was going to take the train down to California but the night before their was an avalanche over the railroad tracks and so we didn't get to go. So no sunny skies for me. Instead I was here in rainy Oregon. Except something good did come out of it. I ended up going to see The Hunger Games five times! First two were to see the movie. The other times were to see Cato and Peeta.(:

  37. This spring break, I went with my family to Eugene, Oregon for 5 days. There wasnt exactly a certain memory I remember most, but the time we were there was really fun, because we just relaxed and hung out the whole time! And when I came back, I went to the broadway musical, Wicked, and it was actually really cool. So if I had to pick one specific memory, if would be that one, because it was a really cool and amazing experience.

  38. For spring break this year, I went to L.A. It was a lot of fun! For the most part, my family and I were just lazy and enjoying the California sun. The trip was pretty good until the flight back to Oregon. I was really sad that spring break was coming to a close, but the worst part was being delayed at the airport for four hours! I passed the time by stuffing my face with candy and listening to music. We didn't get into the Portland airport until 2:00A.M.! It sounds fun, but the bad part was that I had about eight and a half hours until school started!
