Wishes for the holiday season

What are you wishing for this holiday season?

Take some time to reflect on this holiday season and what it means to you.  What are your hopes and wishes during this time?  Are there family traditions you are looking forward to recreating?  Do they involved food, friends, or family?  Do you have plans or expectation for the winter break?

When writing about the season, remember to use descriptive words and phrases.  This blog response should be at least ONE paragraph in length and at least 7+ sentences.  Remember spelling and grammar counts!

Have fun and enjoy sharing your wishes for the season!

Your response is DUE by Friday, December 16 at 5 p.m.

  1. Thank you for sharing your wishes for the holiday season. Next weekend, I am excited about having both of my step-sons back home under one roof. John, who is twenty-three, has been in Charlottesville, Virginia since August. His younger brother, Jacques, has been busy working and will finally be on vacation too. This means food and entertaining will take center stage. Desserts are a must and will include chocolate fudge, frosted sugar cookies, dark chocolate cake, and raspberry pie. Of course the holiday season would be not complete without evening meal of Dungeness crab. One of my wishes is that we have plenty of friends stopping by to visit and to help us eat of the food we have prepared. Fortunately with John and Jacques with us, hungry twenty-something year olds should be prevalent visitors.

I look forward to reading your holiday wishes for the season.

    Best wishes!

  3. I have one and only wish for winter break, and that's for it to snow. My family and I will be going to Palm Springs over winter break. It will hopefully be a lot warmer then it here in Oregon, but when I come back hopefully it snows. One of my best friends will be moving to Arkansas so I will be Skyping her when she gets there. Before I leave for Palm Springs my mom and I will decorate our Christmas tree. This weekend my 7 foot Christmas tree status will be: decorated. I cant wait till I go to Palm Springs under the warm sun and in a swimming pool in the outdoors. Sounds fun huh...?

  5. This season is my favorite season of the year. This winter i really really want it to snow!! My favorite holiday traditions are spending a day with my family to put up all of the Christmas decorations. We always put the lights on the house and the ornaments on the Christmas tree. But my absolute favorite day is Christmas Eve. It just gets me really excited for Christmas!

  8. This is my favorite season of the year. The first thing I am going to do is celebrate by birthday on Friday December 16 with a few of my friends. Then the next day my family and I are going to Houston, Texas to visit my grandparents. We are going to a Houston Texans football game. Then we are going to swim in my grandparents pool. After all of this, it will be Christmas. I hope to get a $50 iTunes gift card, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3, and a gift card to best buy.

  9. The whole time I was living in Lexington i saw snow. The snow lifted my heart and energized me. This feeling is gone now that I live in Oregon. I wish for this feeling to come back and for two feet of snow to hit the ground! This season is a special time for me. In this period of time I almost always see my cousins. Two of my cousins are having a really hard life, and I hope for this vacation will get their mind off that. This season, I really hope that my cousin's lives will get better.

Of all of the seasons, winter is my favorite. It is full of love, laughter, opening presents, and being around the Christmas tree together. I love Christmas time because my sister who is twenty-four will be joining us this year. I really would like Uggs, gift cards, a new iPod, and lots of snow for Christmas this year. Mostly I want snow because the other day it was sunny in December! I couldn’t believe it! But lets hope by the time it gets to Christmas Eve it will be snowing some flakes at least!

  11. Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow! We wish, right?

My whole family have almost never been all together at Christmas before, or at least as far as I remember. Whether the case is they're at school, in China or traveling for business, we're always missing a few people! So this year my wish is for all of us to be together for Christmas, the happiest time of the year! (I'm actually watching Disney's A Christmas Carol now so I'm quite in the mood!) Of course some presents and a bit of snow wouldn't hurt!

Usually for holidays, my family and I will gather together and have hotpot. Christmas Eve is a great time to do it! This involves us sitting together around my aunt's rectangular oak table with bowls of vegetable, fish, shrimp, etc. Everyone has a small serving of a delicious sauce in a bowl. There is a big pot in the middle of the table split into two sides: spicy and normal. I personally like the spicy! We select what we want to eat from the bowls and cook it in the hotpot for several minutes. This gives us a chance to talk and catch up on the things we've been doing, or just laughing about old memories! Hotpot is quick, easy, and a fun thing to do with your family! Did I mention it was delicious? :) Then afterwards we have some yummy treats and stay up late late late waiting for Christmas!

  12. This Christmas, none of my relatives will be coming. All of my family is spread around the country, making travel difficult. I really hope that it snows this winter break. We've had a very snowless December so far. A family tradition for Christmas dinner is lasagna, but I don't actually like it. This year, on New Year's, I plan to stay up until 12:00 on the last day of 2011. I've tried in previous years, but failed to stay up late enough.

  13. Christmas is the best time of the year. The snow fills the streets (not this year) and lights brighten up the neighborhoods. Saturday is a busy day. We have to wake up go to the airport and take a plane to Seattle; then when we land in Seattle we will take a flight to Seoul, Korea. I’ve been to Korea many times before but only in the summer time when it’s hot and humid. I’ve been there in the winter once when I was around one or two. But I need to be ready for the cold. Over there it will be somewhere around 15 to 20 degrees. So it’s a lot colder than Oregon. I’m not asking much for Christmas. But I want a new ITouch because I dropped mine so much it’s not in the best shape. Or better yet an IPhone, but that’s a little too far. I really want snow in Korea because signs of snow here aren’t that good. But it always snows in Korea they just never know for sure when. I can’t wait to go to Korea and have to BEST CHRISTMAS EVER!

  14. This Christmas break i am hoping for snow! I am also very excited for seeing my sister back from college. She is coming back on this Thursday! Every Christmas we always have traditional dinner, it usually consist of sparkling cider, salad and usually a surprise main course. All the food is made by my sister and I! After stuffing ourselves we make bake chocolate cookies, and ginger bread men! We also decorate a ginger bread house. After stuffing decorating and finishing up desserts we finish the night with a Christmas movie. This Christmas the thing i want most is SNOW!

  15. THE HOLIDAYS ARE HERE!!!!!!!!!!!! This christmas, I would like the most for it to snow for AT LEAST for a week, so we actually get some time to enjoy it! Some holiday traditions are: Every christmas, we usually have aunts, uncles, and grandma's over, and get food, then sit down around the table. Then we have a traditional breakfast FEAST, around 10:00 am, to 11:15 am. Usually every person in the family has to bring something to eat... This year, SO DO I! I don't know if I'm supposed to be excited or what:/. After the breakfast, we usually get right down to the presents. Next, people stay around for a little while for a little more than a half hour than they leave. Another holiday tradition is for my mom to be the elf and pass out the presents. This Christmas, the thing I want the VERY MOST... IS SNOWWWWW! Please?

It is that time of year already?
To me the most important thing about this time of year is being with my family and friends. I would have to say the thing I am looking most forward to is snow. We don't really have any "family traditions", but we do have an upcoming trip to India this winter break. And that is what I will be doing these last few weeks of 2011!

  17. Well, I guess it's time for the holidays. Time to party and have a great time. Mostly, my wishes are for it to snow, of course. I'm going to stay at home and my grandma is visiting from Tacoma, Washington, so I'm excited to see her. I just love the holidays, and especially this time of year. It's the time of the year when it mostly snows. You put a tree in your house, decorate it with pretty lights and stuff, and put presents for your family under it. Also, you get to party and nobody can stop you from having the greatest time of your life!

  18. My wishes for the holiday is to have a wonderful time with my family and friends. Gathered around the tree and see my brothers eye balling the presents. They should no that the presents don't matter but their to young to realize that. They think Christmas is a time to open presents but it's not, it's about our Heavenly Father. Oh I almost forgot the food. The magnificent food!!!! It's so hard to resist. The way it smells from coming in from out side. It's amazing. Got to love Mama's cooking!!!

  19. There are many things I'm wishing for this holiday season. Obviously there are many things on my Christmas list but I there are a few I would really like. I really want a Macbook Air (but something tells me that's not going to happen). A family tradition that has gone on for as long as I can remeber is me, my mom, and my dad all go over to my grandma's house. There we have home-baked cinnamon rolls, eggs, bacon, etc. We then all gather in the living room and open presents. Unfortuantely my mom will not be going since my parents are divorced. One thing I'm also really hoping for is...SNOW!

I love watching my younger brother to exited of the gifts to realize that christmas is all about giving not getting. I eat french toast and waffles for breakfast every year. My dad always makes random stuff for dinner like cake, pizza, fish n chips, ice cream and prime rib.I will have 4 christmases because i have 1 at my grand mas one at my dads 1 at my moms and one at my dads. I HOPE IT WILL SNOW!!!!!!!!!!

  21. For me, the holidays mean that I can see my older brother who is stuck in a Navy base in San Diego. He is coming over from San Diego and he is coming the day after Christmas. He already sent over Christmas presents and I really want to open the presents. My mom is a really good cook and she's planning on making a huge dinner for my brother. I'm hoping it will snow the day after my older brother comes over. The only family tradition I have is staying up late on New Years, but it's not really a family tradition since everyone does that. The holidays are pretty crazy and unpredictable. And of course I have to find Christmas presents for everyone, which is kind of stressful.

  22. I cannot wait for the holidays! Usually I go to Santa Barbara, in California, where I spend the holidays with my grandparents, but this year I am going to Fort Collins, Colorado. I am going to do all sorts of fun things there. We plan to go cross-country skiing, which I love to do. I’ve cross-country skied for around four-five years now. I an excited to spend time with my extended family, as I haven’t seen them for a while and they will almost all be there with us. The holidays are going to be really fun this year!

  23. I just want you to know that christmas is my favorite time of the year because of lots of giving and getting and everything that anyone could ever wish for. One of the things that I'm really dying for is snow because it hasn't really snowed here for a couple of years. It's probably because of the weather or something that has messed up on mother nature. Anyway, HAPPY HOLIDAYS! Chase Vernon Dec. 15 2011 5:21P.M.

  24. I have many wishes for this Christmas but I am really looking forward to the dinner. Every year either my mom's side of the family or my dad's side will come over for a big dinner of ham, pies, potato casserole, rolls, and the best food ever! The one wish that I really want to come true would be for snow! Also, a Christmas tradition that we started doing when I was in probably first or second grade was that every Christmas Eve me, my brothers, and my sister will all open one present and sometimes we will also play a game and then we will wrap all of the presents and put them around the tree. Cross your fingers for at least some snow this winter break. :)

Me and my family usually go to California to see my mom's side of the family, But we decided not to go. So i guess were doing nothing for Christmas. Anyway, what I really want for Christmas is an I-tunes gift card, so I can buy Season 3 Modern Family's (best show ever!) I also would love for it to be a white Christmas. It always rains but never snows.

  28. This Christmas will be one of the most memorable for me, I believe. We have many plans this year and I am so exited! One of the things is that, this year my family and our family friends are going on a trip to Aruba. I am so excited to get to go there for the first time and see the blue waters surrounding the island!
The other most memorable part of this year that will last a long time, is my Christmas present. All I have ever wanted since I was a little girl and still do, is a horse. This year my friend and I are getting a horse from Santa! I can not wait to see him and ride him it will be so much fun. Merry Christmas!

Okay, so this Christmas, my cousins are coming, and some other family. I am going to Sunriver from the 21-24th and then staying home the rest of the break. For Christmas I want a windbreaker (yesssss) and some other things. I really want it to snow, like it did four years ago or whenever it was, when we had like a week off of school. I plan on chilling and watching Christmas movies all break. I'm really excited for Christmas! No more waking up early....

  30. Yay its Christmas! I hope to get some video games. Also, I would be very happy if it snowed, just enough to build snow forts or snowballs. My sister and I always get up at about 5:00 on Christmas morning because we are always very excited about presents. My whole family used to have a tradition that we would all gather around the Christmas tree, including my cat, and sort out the presents from my presents, and my sisters presents, and then from biggest to smallest but we stopped doing that when we moved here and our cat passed away. Anyway, I wish you all a Merry Christmas!

I do not have any traditions, so I guess my family's tradition is untraditional, my dad calls it a "traditional-untraditional Christmas." I hope I can get a good week of rest with another week of playing! I also hope I can stay up late, A LOT! Also, I am looking forward to my mom's AWESOME cooking, because she is the best at cooking! I am also looking forward to my presents because I bet they are AWESOME just like my mom's cooking. The biggest thing I am looking forward to is sleeping in! That is the best part. Also, I don’t have to babysit my annoying little siblings because my mom is taking that week off from work. Some of my family only comes up once or twice a year so it is nice to see them. It is held at my grandparents' house overlooking Oswego Lake. I have always looked forward to our dinner because it is nice to see all of my family at one time.

  39. This holiday season always means the same thing to me every year. Food,
gifts and family. My #1 wish is to get an XBOX 360 w/ Modern Warfare 3 and
Batman Arkham City. My hope is year is that everyone in my family will
make to my grandma's house safe and ready to play some apples to apples and
the white elephant exchange. The one tradition that my family does is
either the plan old original gift exchange, which is my personal favorite,
or the white elephant "gift" exchange. I say that the original is better
and "gift" because last year my uncle Shane put in some women's
underwear!! I don't know about you but to me that is not a gift! We are
going to play apples to apples for the first time this year, there are
going to be eight of us so I think it will be entertaining. I only have to
BIG things plan one is to hang out with my friend Max as much as possible
and sleep over at his place on New Year's Eve. Then the other thing....
Is SHAVING! Starting the year with a bald face is something worth looking

One special tradition is on Christmas Eve we all go get Chineese food at Hunan Pearl then go home and watch A Christmas Story over and over till Christmas at 12:01 am then wego to bed and after we wake up at 5:30 and open everything that santa brought us. I look foward to this every year because this is the only family tradition we have even though I dont like chineese food, I normally get rice and tea.

This would be cool because one of my most favorite games is Madden football for Xbox and he would be in that game. Another wish is to have free time this year to "chillax" and hangout with friends because this winter break I got a lot and I love it! A family tradition I love having is on Christmas after we open gifts at our houses my cousins and Noni and Papa get together at their house and open even maore gifts. Plus I get to brag about all the cool gifts I got from "Santa" to my cousin Ryan. An expectation I have is that my sister will hopefully will act like an angel because Christmas is near and won't fight with her hansom athletic sick sick bar bar brother me.
