Dear Students,
ReplyDeleteFreedom has changed for me as I have become older and have had more life experiences. I used to think of freedoms as providing me with more liberties and rights. Now I think of freedom being closely related to responsibilty, especially to others. It is an ongoing balancing act. When I was in first grade, freedom meant being able to walk by myself down to the end of our long drive way and cross the street to pick up the mail. In high school, freedom meant being able to drive my '76 Rabbit Diesel to school and to visit friends. Of course that freedom involved driving safely and paying for gas and other car related expenses.
I look forward to hearing your views of freedom and what it means to you.
Mrs. Allan / B3 and B4
I think freedom is you have wrights to do thing that you enjoy your self, or things that good for me. I think its freedom is very important to me. If I haven’t got freedom to read, learn, or play, it will be horrible. In the ancient time some place you have no wrights to do any without permission, like slaves. The Africans haven’t done any thing to the Europeans, but they took their freedom because their skins color.
ReplyDeleteThe meaning of freedom often changes over time. When I’m in kindergarten I think freedom is, I can do any things what I want. In third grade I think do homework what I want (in china there are many home work!!!!). In LOJ, I think freedom is we can choose schedule, classmates, and teachers in our class. In high school I think I will choose my college be my freedom.

Freedom to me is something that is when you can get away from something that is controlling you. In first grade I thought freedom was when you get away from mom and dad and you do whatever you want. Later in my life, I will probably think the meaning of freedom is totally different. An example of freedom is like this: if you are a slave, then your master is not going to let you have freedom, unless they are really nice.

I think freedom is something that controls part of my life. It was what Martin Luther King Jr did, make every ones right equal such as drinking fountains, riding public buses, and going to school ect. When I was in first grade I thought that freedom was stupid. That's all of what I thought when I was in first grade. Now I think that everyone should have freedom. Even the people that are slaves. Every one should have equal rights. Oh and cant forget my elementary had no freedom but Lake Oswego Junior High has a whole bunch of freedom. Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. "Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that." -Martin Luther King Jr.

Freedom is a strong word. Most people think that freedom is to be free with your friends. I think freedom means that your parents are not on your back telling you to do your homework. I also think that freedom has to do with your race. It shouldn't matter if you are black or white. Freedom at my old school was different from what I think it should be. I think that you should be able to have a freedom on what you are aloud to wear. Freedom of speech is also a big part of life. I think that you are aloud to express you felling.

Freedom, has been sought for all over the world. From America, to the revolts in Libya and Egypt. to me, i would die without freedom of speech. Not being able to speak my mind makes me pretty annoyed. Also, not having the freedom to marry who I please, would make me angry. If I hate someone, and end up marrying them I would not be a happy camper. Take the house of representatives, they're trying to limit freedom of speech on the internet. In response, Wikipedia blacked out for a whole day. I couldn't access all the data I wanted, and that's what it'd be like with no freedom of speech on the internet. Freedom of religion also means a lot to me. If the government forced a Christian priest to convert to Scientology, that would start a revolt by itself. All in all, freedom is very important to me.

Long story short, for me freedom is just getting to be able what you want to do and make the decisions you want to make. Freedom is being able to state your opinions and beliefs. Also, freedom could be just to choose what you would like to be when you grow up and choose what you want to be and not have someone else pick a job for you. Also, freedom could be you doing what you want to do in general and not having someone following you around watching your every move to see if they allow you to do it.

Freedom to me means to do almost anything that is reasonable, this is determined by using your common sense, not doing whatever you want. The most important freedoms to me are the freedom of internet and information, the freedom of speech and the freedom of religion, being a Buddhist. Freedom has changed for me because I have started to realize its limits, I can't run naked through the streets,(not like I would anyway!) and I can't steal from people. Freedom in first grade to me was being able to do ANYTHING, even what I said above. In high school I will have regressed from where I am now, being a snotty teenager and all.

Freedom for me means that you get your own rights. Freedom is not based on skin color or anything else. It is what you can control. An example of freedom is your region. No one else can choose it, only you can. Nobody is allowed to decide for you. An example of no freedom is when slaves were around. They had disadvantages such as sitting in the back while riding a bus, or going to restaurant only for white skinned people. I've had experience about freedom. In first grade I wasn't allowed to stay out late. Now days my parents did really care because they know I'm responsible.

Freedom is basically everthing.Freedom is being able to get a say in a converstation, the right to be where you want and much more. In 1st grade I didn't really know what freedom was. I do know that when it comes to me being a senior in high school....it will mean the world to me because high school is every tough at those ages and getting the apporpriate respect that everbody deserves. An example would be: If you were a differnt color than the white then you wouldn't get as much respect as everybody else. Freedom has changed for me over the years.

Freedom is a choice or action that you can do without being rejected and shunned from others that think differently. You can choose to be friends with who you want to be friends with, whether they are white or black. Many people have a bias against other people with different shades of skin, which limits their freedom(actions)to do certain things. When I was young, I thought that freedom was just a thing meant for anyone but white people or Americans, since I only heard the word freedom when adults talked about Martin Luther King Junior. When it comes down to the specifics, freedom means many different things, but when you think about the big picture, freedom is just a choice. Some people might think that freedom is to use the internet all the time, but starving children in Africa think that freedom would just to be sitting in a air-conditioned school-room. When I'm a senior in high-school, freedom will probably be the fact that I can get a scholarship to Lewis or Clark College, or Boston University. When people get older, their visions of freedom change. When my parents moved to the United States after living in the Soviet Union for many years, my parents didn't have that much choice on their means of transportation. It was either to stay in Ukraine, or to get in a empty bus driven by the Russian Mafia in the middle of the night to get to the America. My parents freedom was violated just in the fact of how they could get to the United States. If there was freedom in every single thing in the world, big or tiny, this world would be a very different place.

Freedom. It is the ability to make one's own decisions, to choose how to live one's life, and even to decide one's own fate. Perhaps it is the most potent idea in the history of humanity. It is the flame that has started a thousand wars and overturned a thousand governments. Millions have died in its name. Yet, it continues to elude whoever pursues it. Like a butterfly, it escapes just when you are about to capture it, and is always just out of reach. Children envy adults for their perceived freedom to make their own decisions, yet when the children grow up they find themselves with just as many responsibilities as freedoms. Freedom is always accompanied by responsibilities, making absolute freedom impossible. As for freedom's particular relevance to my life, I have much to say. In the first and second grades I don't recall any contemplation on the topic. In the third and fourth grades, I was very strong-opinioned although I did not feel that my parents infringed on my rights that much. In the fifth and sixth grades, freedom became an extremely important factor in my life, and I fought viciously against my parents' perceived tyranny. Today, I have settled on the futility of freedom without responsibiliy and have decided to just take an apathetic attitude to my restricted rights as a teenager. I have enough freedom already, and also am too busy doing things of greater significance to campaign for more.
ReplyDeleteNic Quattromani B4
Freedom, to me, is the right to make your own decisions. When I was young, freedom meant doing whatever I wanted. Now, however, I think of freedom as more about accountability for your actions. I think that we were not allowed much freedom when we were young because we were not responsible enough. If you want to have freedom, you need to be able to use it responsibly. In countries all over the world, people are gaining new freedoms. The problem is most people do not know what to do now. Freedom of speech and religion are very important. Being able to say and believe what you want are some of our most basic and important human rights. We should all have the right to choose our own future.
ReplyDeleteJackson Friess B3
For me Freedom means to be able to do or say what you want. There are many different freedoms a person can have which are freedom of speech, freedom to vote, freedom to practice a religion, and many more. To me, freedom of speech is the most important. Being able to say what’s on you mind is very important. With freedom of speech, you can say your opinion about anything. If you don’t like a certain law, you can state your reasoning for what you don’t like about the law. Before World War II, African Americans and woman didn’t have much freedom of speech. In fact, they had very few freedoms. They didn’t have freedom to assemble, to go where they want, or to do what they want. After World War II, Women and African Americans’ freedoms began to grow. It wasn’t until Barack Obama became president that showed African Americans’ had as many rights as Caucasians. However, some would argue women still don’t have as many freedoms as men.

To me freedom means to do what ever you want when ever you want; to have the right to choose. So you can have a choice to do what you want to do, not what others want you to. The type of freedoms i like include being treated like an equal, and being able to do what i want, when i want to. My freedoms have not really changed sense 1st grade, but i do think they will change when i am in high school. If i was a serf, i would definitely loose my mind, i would hate to have people bossing my around, even though i already do (my parents) but of course i love my parents.

To me, freedom means the ability to make decisions for myself. I think that as I get older, I get more freedoms. This includes things like getting a cell phone and an email account. I think I have many freedoms, such as the ability to choose a job one day. This seems very important, as that way I can work at a place I enjoy. I also have the right to practice any religion that I choose, which is very important to me. I think that I have a lot more freedoms than other people in other places.

For me, freedom is a lot of thing. Freedom is very important, such has having my own opinions or voice. Having the choice to grow up and choose my own job. Freedom is when nobody can own you or speech for you. Also freedom is the ability to choose someone you merry or your friends with.

I am so thankful to be in a country where we have the freedom to speak our mind and wear what we please. Sometimes I get distracted by petty things, like when I can't figure out what to say for an essay or my email isn't loading fast enough. But then I remember that I can do those things because of freedom of speech.
ReplyDeleteFreedom of religion is also one I am grateful for. I'm not strictly one religion, and I'd hate it if it was required to be Jewish, or something and practice only their ways. There is lots of controversy on politics and world issues, and if we didn't have the right to say what we wanted, many of us would be in prison. Freedom to date and marry whom you desire is a big thing I know many of us teens appreciate. Wouldn't you hate it if your husband was hand-picked by your parents and turned out to be an old, snobby crank?
In first grade, freedom to me was writing about anything in our journals. We weren't required to write about our weekend, so I had fun making up stories and jokes. Now, freedom means unlimited Internet time and a cell phone. High school freedom is getting our license and staying out late at parties. Even though there is always more freedom to obtain, we are fortunate to have already so much.

FREEDOM!! Don’t you just love having freedom in this country. I know I do. Freedom in my opinion means to be able to do what you want without having anything stopping you. Or it means being free and not “owned”. Freedom means a lot to me, thanks to freedom I can have my own choice and choose for myself in life for something like a job or even what to buy at a store. Also I don’t have to do what anyone orders me to do against my own will. That’s right FREEDOM FOR LIFE! At least I hope I have freedom for life.

I think that freedom is being able to dress, act, or even speak how you want to. When I was younger, I wasn't allowed to do certain things like pick out my own outfits, but now that I'm older I have gained more freedom to choose what I wear. I think that being able to choose my own outfits, when I do my homework, and some friends I have are some of the most important freedoms I have now. When I was in first grade, I wasn't quite sure what freedom was but an idea of it, now I understand that freedom is being able to choose what you want and not what other people choose for you, like Lord Furnival. When I am a senior in high school, freedom will be different, I would have more choices like where I will live after school, or what collage or even what my job will be. From last year to now, I have a lot more freedoms like my electives where last year we had to stay in one class, without choosing what we learn.

ReplyDeleteWhen I was like five freedom was a long word that I couldn;t spell. Now Freedom was very important. If it wasn't for freedom the world would be very sad and there would be slavery everywhere.
ReplyDeleteSeibel, Jacob
Freedom is something that most people have in our country but not in a lot of others. We can speak freely about whatever we what, choose what job to purse for money, and who we want to marry instead of being engaged by your parents. Another thing is you don't have to do any of these things unless you want to. Which I think is one of the greatest freedoms.
ReplyDeleteSpencer R, L.A. B4
To me freedom meens thet you are able to do things without aanyone telling us we can't! We are not told what to do. We are not owned by anobody else to will say what we can or cannot do. These days women have just as many rights as men. We aren't told who to marry and how many kids to have. Women can earn their own money and live where they want. Same with African Americans, they can have just as many rights as anybody! That is what freedom is.

Freedom means so many things to me. I have always had a strong opinion about freedom and how everyone should have the same amount of freedom. Freedom is being able to do what you want to do, say you want to say, and be who you want to be. Everyone should be able to do what they want no matter their race, gender, age, or economic class. Freedom is something that our society will always need to be successful.

To me, freedom has many different meanings. When I was in first grade, freedom meant being able to do whatever you want, and stay up later. When I am a senior in high school, freedom will mean having the right to vote, and driving where you want, also being trusted by your parents

Freedom means a lot of different things to me. It means having the right to do what you want to do. I'm glad that I have a lot of freedom in this country. It can also mean what you want to do with no limits to what you can't do.To me, the most important freedom is the right to vote. If you are paying taxes to a country, then it is good if you have the right to vote who is leading the country. The meaning of freedom has changed for me over the years. When I was in the first grade, I used to think that freedom meant having special privileges that adults have. When I'm a senior in high school, freedom will mean to have the ability to drink alcohol, vote, and drive a car. In my life, freedom plays a role of being able to go to the bathroom when I want to, but I don't get freedom by being forced to go to school each morning!

Freedom can be many things. It can mean being able to have more responsibility. The United States of America is a country full with freedom. It can be anything from the freedom of speech to the freedom of making your own choices.

Freedom is more than one thing, it can mean from choosing who you marry to what you want to eat for lunch. Right now freedom is just going out with my friends to the movies and the mall, but in a few years it will be driving, voting, where I want to live, etc. One reason I love the Unites States is because we get to have so much freedom here apart from some places. To me freedom is making your own choices, and speaking your mind

I think freedom is being able to do what you want. It is to make your own decisions when ever you want to, even if it's not the right decision. To me, right now freedom is just being able to hang out with friends and go out to places. In the first grade, I didn't know very much about freedom. Now I do, and I also think that how responsible you are will affect how much freedom your parents/ guardian will give you. Those are my thoughts on freedom!

To me, freedom is having certain things that you are able to do and are allowed to do. Having the responsibility to decide for yourself. For me, freedom is being able to walk places with my friends and go places I want alone. In the first grade, I didn't get to have as much freedom because I was learning how to be responsible. In high school, i will probably gain more freedom.

Freedom is great reward and responsibility to have. Freedom has not changed for me in the past 7 years at all. I don't have a whole lot of freedom because in my life the tiniest mistake screws my freedom privileges up big time. When I was in first grade I didn't really even care about freedom. In high school it will mean my life to me! I would die if I couldn't go hang out with my friends, go see me movies, go sleep over a friends house, and even a birthday party. In the end, even though I know deep down I'm not going to do what I want to do sometime I still do the best I can to try to earn what I deserve.

Freedom to me is the most amazing thing in the world. Freedom is so important we start wars about it. Freedom to me is a gift that you get when you are trusted and if you aren't trusted it can change your life. The phone you always had taken away, your game system that you cherish is gone, and even not hanging out with the best thing of all your beloved friends can be stopped till you earn your freedom back. Freedom is something that can't be wrapped in a box and mailed to your grandpa you have to get it by believing in something and you can't stop.
ReplyDeleteJackson Kraus LA B3
Freedom to me right now when I'm twelve years old would mean you get to stay out with your friends longer, you also are aloud to watch possibly different movies that you weren't aloud to see before. Freedom also means getting a new cell phone, or xbox. When I was in first grade and I heard the word freedom, I would immediately think of M.L.K, because I remember watching a video about him in the show "fat albert". When I'm 18 years old, I'll be in high school, and one of the freedoms that would come to my mind would be, YUPËÉĖ I can drive! Another freedom that I would have is the chance to vote. Freedom has played a roll in my life by giving me the opportunity to be able to watch the movies I can watch, have the cell phone that I can have, etc.
ReplyDeleteAidan Malagamba LA B3 (above)
ReplyDeleteFreedom to me is being free from slavery, family, friends, and pets. Having a special time for yourself. To have more advantages. As for example, when your in the second grade your parents have you sleep around eight. But once your in seventh grade your parents are more on the soft side to what time you go to bed. Freedom also has to do with having more responsibilities. Like having a cell phone or a laptop, watching a certain rated movie or even having to go hang out with friends.
ReplyDeleteHedeeyeh Saberian, B3
Freedom has a lot of definitions but what it means to me in my childhood is that you get to do whatever you want and can get what you like maybe a gaming system or a cell phone. Others may think of it as more responsibilities like as I said above or going to bed whenever.
ReplyDeleteQuinn Rudolph B4
To me, freedom is being able to do things on your own and make decisions on your own. I feel like i have freedom because i can go to my friends house whenever i want. I also can go to bed whenever i want to. I also have a cell phone and that gives me alot of freedom to things i want to do.
ReplyDeleteTo me freedom is being able to think what you want with out anyone telling that it is wrong or anyone givine any opinions about it. I have freedm because sometimes I am able to do that, to make my own desisions with out a comment.
ReplyDeleteSam Wolff, B3
to me freedom means being able to have your own rights and your own beliefs. Freedoms that are important to me are being able to ware the clothes of my choice and being able to be myself and believe in what I truly believe in. Yes the meaning of freedom has changed for me over the years since I was little and now. In first gread the meaning freedom meant to me, being able to watch watever cartoons I wanted, and going out side without telling my dad. When I am a senior in high school freedom will mean to me, being able to drive wear ever I want and having more privileges. Freedom plays a huge role in my life and Im glad we are all able to be free and make our own choices.
